[Day 27] St. Bernardus Abt 12

The countdown starts.  27 days till lift off to Denver for the Great American Beer Festival.  I figured that a worthy goal is to try a beer that I have never had before each day for the next 27 days.  So hear it goes, day 27, I’m enjoying a St. Bernardus Abt 12.

I’m sitting here watching the Longhorns kick some Ole Miss butt. It’s going well so far… Texas 31 and Ole Miss 10 at Half-Time. But now onto the beer… St. Bernardus Abt 12 a Belgian Abbey Ale and quiet malty and leggy.  I love the subtle cherry hints on the nose and the biscuity tingle.  The Abbey has a nice mouthfeel, where it isn’t tacky, but chewy.  I’m enjoying my second pour into my Bing Beer mug and it has warmed up.  The best thing is this Abbey takes on different flavors and I’m not afraid to finish it with pleasure.  It turns a little more roasted coffee flavor on the palate, kind of like the toddy I brew.

I wonder how a beer would do with some coffee grinds.  Would it be better with spent coffee grinds or fresh ones seasoned in a beer.  I do have to make one confession.  I’ve had this beer before and really love it, but I figured since it’s my Daughter’s 3rd birthday and my Wife just graduated from Acupuncture school… I figured any beer I had in the fridge would do ok.  Plus I didn’t have enough time to go out and get a new beer for my goal.

Enjoy!
